Sorry to hear about your personal life cliff! I have always enjoyed your posts and thoughts on GD shows and you seem like a standup guy! My uncle is a fishbroker out of chicago and has his own market/restaurant so i know how hard you guys work and how difficult the business is! Whoever posted that bullshit deserves all the bad karma they can get, that was disgusting, perverse and just twisted! I pray for your girlfriend and yourself cliff and hopefully you can both find some peace and tranquility in your life! To have to tell everyone here this way sucks but I think you will find the majority of the forum feel for you and will be praying for you!

For the record, a great deal of this is complete bullshit. The rest is ancient history.

Yes, a tuna export business that I owned went belly up in 1999. The business existed for seven years and during that time sold in excess of $13 million dollars worth of fresh tuna in Japan annually. It's true that a small number of creditors did not get paid what they were owed. As is true in most bankruptcies. But the vast majority (several hundred) of my other suppliers were paid in full.

The failure of my business was investigated by the attorney generals of Massachusetts and several other states my company did business in. I have never been charged with any crime.

It's unfortunate that my business failed and a few hard working commercial fishermen did not get paid for fish they sold to my company. This is regrettable and continues to bother me to this day.

I've never had a drug problem during my life. The failure of my business was due to a number of factors that included embezzlement by two of my employees.

Not sure where the anti semitism and domestic violence allegations come from. I'm Jewish and I've never been married.

I recently got back into the Tuna business and things have been going quite well for me. Many former and new suppliers are supporting me now and are quite happy that I am back brokering their tuna.

Unfortunately, the dark period in my life, which continues today, is due to my girlfriend being recently diagnosed with inoperable and terminal brain cancer.

This malicious and largely factually incorrect post was obviously perpetrated by Kochman, who apparently is in a darker place than I am at the moment...

Dennis

"...it's a little heavy, but that what it's about....Nobody else reaches across the distance and puts their hand on your shoulder about this shit......when you guys played Brokendown Palace at that gig I knew, shit, this is the Grateful Dead tellin' me about my son! IT'S AS BIG A TIME AS IT GETS! AND OLD BILL KNEW, YOU KNOW HE KNEW IT!"

-Ken Kesey(1991-10-31)

Cliff, I'd like to reach across the distance and put my hand on your shoulder about this shit. But really the Grateful Dead does a better job than I can do.

Hang in there.

Thank you for the kind words!

I'm headed out to San Francisco on Monday. I'll be in Hayward workIng for much of the time, but I'll be in the Bay Area for approximately 10 - 12 days or so and I'd really like to meet up with you and Rasta and any other area forumites while I'm there.

Luckily I'm not going to need to crash on anyones couch :) but I'll eventually be facing a decision about relocating to the area and I'm looking forward to meeting some kind folks out there to help me decide if I would be happy relocating to the left coast.

Hey Cliff,

I'm up in Chico since 2000. I don't expect to visit the Bay Area until Mother's Day weekend.

Hayward:

Los Compadres on C St.(Get the chicken taco, chile verde burrito combo. Tortilla soup is also killer.)

Carmen & Family Barbecue on A St.

Both places are hole-in-the-wall joints with very good food. Both have been family owned and operated for decades.

SF:

Biscuits and Blues(for dinner and a show)

If you decide to explore the North State, drop me a line. The Sierra Nevada Brewery/Pub and Grana and new place in town with excellent small plates are great options. My back yard is a pretty good spot as well.

Wow! Your way up in gods country! It must be really beautiful up there!

Thanks for the suggestions on where to go in Hayward. Was I was out in SF last month, all they fed me was Vietnamese food. I'm sure I'll get together with Rasta. I will definable check out your suggestions!

It looks like I will be working for the company in Hayward, and spending about 2 weeks each month out there. So hopefully we can meet up sometime while I'm there!

Hey Flow--the place on C ST...any idea how old it is? All I know is first serious girlfriend in early 70s, parents worked in HeyWord, and of course, growing up in E Bay, WC area, I had NO knowledge of such an area, BUT they used to take us to a great MX place, on that St, I believe. But, could've been anywhere, given my memory. Anyhoo, gave me an entirely diff view of Hayward which I'd only passed thru the dumps of working in my old man's construction company.

Was Aggies across from Kennedy Park? I seem to recall having a burger there once with Marc Subotnik and his dad Dr. Subotnik....the foot Dr. of Hayward.

Indeed it was. When my siblings and I were wee ones (late 50s/early 60s) our dad would first take us to Aggies on many a Saturday where we would feast on doggies and/or burgers and say hello to George and his brother, a couple of robust Greek gentlemen who may have been the west coast version of "Cheeburger, cheeburger, no fry, cheep!" George could easily have replaced Anthony Quinn in Zorba.
Then we would usually head across the street to Kennedy Park and hang out there for awhile. It was always a fun time for us.

Cool, thx. I will have to ask the old girlfriend, as she still lives in the area. Recall a hotdog place, but was thinking it was the Caspers Flow mentioned...

There was a Casper's and an Aggie's.
You might recall the Gay 90s Pizza Palace across the parking lot from Aggie's with that crazy multi-gadgety organ. It was a serious Saturday night hangout for many decades.

Been there since the 70's. 2 Mexican restaurants literally side-by-side. Across the street from Casper's Dogs and the old Hayward Bike Shop.

You got it, there are some very tasty Mexican resturants there. I know of one (can't remember the name) where you walk thru the store to get in - behind Caspers

If you're going to be in Hayward, it's just a hop, skip and a jump over the hills to Rasta Land...he'll be close by, and that area, though perhaps too far from the water, might be where you can look for housing (well, not that I know prices there these days, but it's all fricking expensive). Though involving a commute, the SE Bay Area provides access to "getting away from it all" in terms of sm mtns, woodlands and the like (but again, probably not what a fisherman has in mind).

Good luck with the move, and finding out if Rasta's Home really is a double wide cardboard box with cut-out windows.

Thanks Bow Man!

Looks like I will be spending about two weeks each month out in SF. I have an apartment in Hayward that the company I am consulting for has temporarily rented for me. If I do move out there, it probably would be in the SE Bay Area, as I need to find a good environment for Mason.

I'm sure I'll meet up with Rasta while out there, so be ready for some photos and a report :)

very funny, Tell! Your words are hurtful :) Actually, I've never been homeless except for a few months in 1972 when I lived in my studebaker station wagon. Other that that, I've always paid rent and didn't make any couch rotations. Tracy is close to the Bay Area and I bicycle or take the ACE train to Livermore, 2 or 3 times a month.

Sure I'm low income, but I have $50 put aside for any get together. I'll attend just to make everyone else feel better about themslves - haha. Also, the Looord put me here to make other men look better to their women.

Every year I shmooze with the rich and classy at various wine festivals and events. Hey Cliff, if you enjoy fine ale, check out the Buffalo Bill's Brewery in downtown Hayward on 1082 B Street.

I'm more familiar with the Livermore Area Wineries. However, BD is by far your best connection on the Bay Area scene.

I know. That's why I am pulling your chain without any consideration for hurt feelings...we old regulars have to beat up on one another to make sure the kids around here don't take offense at any strong language that slips into a post now and again...we never mean anything we say, right?

Well, except for that commie pinko anti abortionist totalitarianistic rant of yours five or six yrs ago.

;)

Oh, wait--that was Dire. Nevermind.

I'm crushed with work and unlikely to get up SF way in the next few weeks, but if you head down Monterey area (which you got to do if you want to get to BIG SUR), I'm more than happy to hoist a few and give you a local's tour. Hell, we might even be able to find a Monterey County wine that meets muster...

Because they are bored with the fact that their website has almost no traffic (70 users is the most online over there at one time), and they personally are responsible for no less than 25.4% of their own forum's posts.
